Michael Huff is a Certified Residential Appraiser and owner of Indigo Valuation Group. As a native to Chapel Hill/Durham he enjoys working in the neighborhoods he grew up in and meeting people from all walks of life. Homeowners only see a small portion of an appraiser’s job which is gathering property data and features; however, they spend much more time behind a computer writing reports, crunching numbers, and doing market analysis. And (apparently) riding roller coasters!

This year, Michael set out to achieve the goal of riding 1,000 (!!) roller coasters, which he achieved just this past weekend! He gave us all the details below.

“I have always loved speed and excitement from racing cars to jumping off the Stratosphere. The adrenaline rush roller coasters and thrill rides give along with the airtime feeling of weightlessness produce endless smiles. Advances in ride design and technology over the past two decades have set amazing records with heights over 400’ and speeds exceeding 120mph. The past several years coaster manufacturers founded by enthusiasts are retracking/rebuilding older rides which adds new elements of excitement and keeps me coming back for more.

Unfortunately many theme parks never opened in 2020 and not being able to enjoy my favorite rides motivated me to make up for lost time. My son and I thought 1,000 rides in a year would be a great challenge and we have really enjoyed vacationing across the states to different parks this year. This past weekend I passed the 1,000 ride goal, with many more park visits to come in the fall, which will send me traveling over 1,000 miles on roller coasters this year.”
