NC Hurricane Devastation and Ways to Help

As y’all know, North Carolina has once again found itself in the crosshairs of a devastating hurricane season - only this time in an unusual part of the state. The aftermath in Western NC has been heartbreaking for so many. With homes destroyed, businesses shuttered, and communities displaced, we know the path to recovery is long and challenging.
In times like these, we are reminded of the strength and resilience of our people, but we also recognize the critical need for support and community. Whether you're a North Carolinian or from another state, there are many ways you can contribute to the recovery efforts. Each hurricane leaves a lasting scar on the state, but we know North Carolina residents are built differently! It’s crucial that we as a community rise together - stronger than ever, with help from each other.
If you’re in the position to do so, here’s how you can help:
Donate to Disaster Relief Organizations
Monetary donations are often the quickest way to support relief efforts. Trusted organizations like the American Red Cross, Direct Relief, and GlobalGiving have hurricane-specific funds that go directly to those in need. Donations help cover emergency shelter, food, and medical supplies for displaced residents.
Support Local Non-Profits
If you live nearby or are able to travel, volunteering is another impactful way to support recovery. Organizations like All Hands and Hearts frequently deploy volunteers to disaster zones to help with rebuilding and clean-up efforts. Even if you're not skilled in construction, there are many ways to assist!
Donate Essential Goods
If you're unable to donate money or time, you can still help! We suggest gathering and donating essential items to affected communities. Local shelters and organizations often put out lists of urgently needed supplies, which may include:
Non-perishable food
Hygiene products
Blankets and warm, new clothing
Cleaning supplies
The Food of Central and Eastern NC have some really amazing opportunities BUT be sure to check with other local groups or shelters in your area to find out what they need most at any given time.
Fundraise or Organize Donation Drives Yourself
We know this is a little more of a commitment but we thought we’d throw it out there! Community-driven efforts can make a huge difference. Hosting a fundraiser or setting up a donation drive at your school, workplace, or community center is a great way to bring your friends, family, and community together. Online crowdfunding platforms like GoFundMe allow you to raise funds specifically for North Carolina's hurricane victims.
Remember that together, we can rebuild!
North Carolina has been through this before, and we will go through it again. The devastation is immense, but the spirit of community and compassion runs deep. We have seen it continuously year after year! Whether through donations, volunteer work, or simply spreading the word about relief efforts, your contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by this disaster.
We also want to recognize all of those who have been affected and let y’all know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Stay strong, NC!
